Some people say that dancing is not a sport.
I strongly disagree with them, and I will fight until they agree with me.
The dictionary definition of sport is: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.
Dance can directly match that definition. You must be athletic to dance, you have to be able to make everything look effortless even though it takes so much. You have to perform while your dancing because you are competing against other dancers wanting the same thing as you.
There are so many thing that you must have to be a dancer. You need to be able to count music, remember steps and timing, be able to perform with others and be well at working as a team. You must have great stamina in order to have as much effort in the beginning as well as the end. When people tell me that dance is not a sport i am greatly offended.
Dance requires so much more than most sports do. Lets compare dancing skills to football skills
Dance
musicality
rhythm
flexibility
an excellent memory
good team work
facial expressions
be able to adapt to a character
technique
endurance
patience
perseverance
stamina
football
stamina
some what of a memory, to remember plays
endurance
and that's pretty much it.
See, compared to football dance is quite the work. People think oh it's easy, but it really isn't
It also angers me when people think that I am weak because I dance. You have to have so much muscle to be a dancer. You have to have a strong core to be able to turn, you have to have strong legs to be able to jump, and you must have strong arms so you do not look sloppy when you dance.
So if you ever meet me, never say that dance is not a sport!
