judging

Most people who do not dance, do not know what dancers get judged on. We have people constantly telling us what is wrong and what is right, how to do things and how we suck. So I decided to tell everybody what it really is that we get judged on. First off, when we get on that stage, we get judged on how our costumes look, how clean our hair is,and what are make-up is. With our costumes; we get judged on how they look, how they match the song, and if there is any complications. Once we start dancing, we get judged on if we are dancing together, our smiles and personality, our ability and the level of difficulty of the dance. If you do one thing wrong, or mess up you loose marks. Usually scoring is out of 100. And everybody start off with 100, and they sit there watching and knock off points for every mistake you make. They judge us based on what they think, and what knowledge they have of dance. Sometimes, depending on the competition, you get a piece of paper with writing on it saying what to do to get better marks, or a tape of the judge talking while you were dancing. Usually the class after a competition, we all sit down and either read or listen to what the judges have said about us. And hopefully we can change things before our next competition, and get a better mark. But sometimes the judges know nothing about dance, and they just sit there and watch you and then forget to say anything. Then you either read or listen to nothing and it is a complete waste of time, and you don't learn anything from it.
So, as dancers we are used to getting judged on everything we do. From the way we walk on stage, to the minute we walk off that stage. We are trying to make the judges, whoever they are, like us, and think that we are good. And we try to be more entertaining that the other dancers competing.
