I think that advertising effect everybody. Weather you think it effects you or not, it does. Sometimes you may not realize it but when you hear a song on a commercial, and you remember it. That means that the advertisement is working. They are putting something in your head and you remember it. And that means that they are doing their job properly. When we did the "jingle" exercise worksheet, and we had to match the slogan with the product. I was actually not very good at this at all. I could hardly get any of them. I think I got about 10 of them correct. And the other like 20, I had never even heard of. But that could be because I don't really watch that much television so I do not get exposed to advertisements while watching commercials. I do hear some of the them on the radio though. But still not as many as you would if you were watching television.
After doing the slogan exercise, I realized that I was more effected by them than I thought. The stupid songs that companies make up, get stuck in your head because they try to make them catchy and easy to sing along to. Then if you have the song stuck in your head, you are most likely to start singing it or humming the tune to it. Then you are a walking advertisement for the company and/or product. If you start singing the catchy song and somebody else hears you, then they will most likely ask what you are singing and then if you tell them "Oh it's a song from ____" then you will be promoting them. And then they will have that in their head and they might start to sing it, which keeps the process going.
Using catchy songs and catch phrases are a great way for companies to market their product. We cannot escape from the constant thought of advertisements. They are everywhere, and there is not anywhere you can go to get away from them. You go on a bus, there are advertisements in the bus stops. Also, you go on the train or the subway, and there are posters advertising product all over the train and/or subway. You go to the mall, there are obviously advertisements playing as background music and voices and on the wall. You watch television, you are flooded with advertisements. You go to the movies you sit there and watch 20 minutes of commercials and slogans before your movie.

BOTTOM LINE;
advertisements and slogans are everywhere. And you ARE affected.
You may think your not, but you are.
End Of Story.
